A New Theme
As I was snooping around, I came across this theme, inspired by one of my favorite films and the design work of one of my favorite designers. How long it stays, I don’t know.

RIP: Alistair Cooke
As a child of the 80s, Masterpiece Theater was a staple in my house and so was “the British Walter Cronkite” (as a British chum described him to me). Then as I got older, I discovered his Letter from America on the world service (which you have to listen to to believe).
This is depressing: three people from my childhood that I admired have left this mortal coil. (And yes, I do...

So, Wed. night, Mr. Mitchell swung by for vino and booze. Then he, his #1 guy, #1 guy’s sister, and I went to Chez 19 for merriment. In the hullabaloo I dropped my poor phone into the loo. *Ick!*
The next day rolls around, I roll into the phone store, and to make a long story short…

Okay, how the hell did I miss this one? One of my favorite comics of all time passes on? And if the whole “they always come in threes” mentality is true, then who’s next.
RIP: Cyd Charisse
In honor of the passing of Miss Cyd Charisse (one of my all time favorite dancers), here’s one of my favorite scenes, “All of You” from Silk Stockings. This scene justifies Mr. Astaire’s famous quote about the lady; “When you dance with her, you stay danced with.”

I so want this at the day job. Except though for maximum effect (and in keeping with my WASP roots) it would have to be in a secluded area well within ear-shot (but not seen) by the desks.
Awesome, no?

there were these ladies. Sad that #4 couldn’t be there and is rumored to be battling dementia. :(

Following on the heels of Olga Neuwirth’s opera Lost Highway (yes, it’s based on the David Lynch film) and the forthcoming operas Il Postino (by Osvaldo Golijov), The Fly (Howard Shore), and Brokeback Mountain (Charles Wuorinen), now we get the news that La Scala has commissioned composer Giorgio Battistelli to compose an opera of the Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
