RIP: Alistair Cooke
As a child of the 80s, Masterpiece Theater was a staple in my house and so was “the British Walter Cronkite” (as a British chum described him to me). Then as I got older, I discovered his Letter from America on the world service (which you have to listen to to believe).
This is depressing: three people from my childhood that I admired have left this mortal coil. (And yes, I do realize that a leggy balletomane, a laconic comedian, and a broadcast personality are an odd mix, but there it is.) Hail and farewell, Sir Alistair! You will be missed.
